SÉRAPHINE SÉRAPHINE LOUIS dite (1864-1942)

Femme de ménage de Senlis dont l’œuvre occupe une place tout à fait à part dans l’art naïf: Séraphine se situe à peu près à mi-chemin entre la peinture naïve proprement dite, et celle (si fascinante et si diverse) des aliénés. Une étrange ferveur l’habite, où se mêlent exaltation et tourment. Elle ne travaille jamais d’après nature, mais se borne à reproduire son rêve intérieur. Elle ne connaît guère qu’un seul sujet: le bouquet. Mais à travers ce thème, inlassablement repris, se déploie toute la richesse d’une imagination visionnaire. Grâce à une technique particulière, dont elle a gardé jalousement le secret, elle a su fixer les irisations, les lueurs, les flamboiements d’une matière florale en perpétuelle fusion; mais, au-delà du thème apparent, se profile, indécise et trouble, toute une imagerie du désir.
